The Reason to Protest

Before I tell you why, I'll tell you when:

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 19th, at 2pm.

We're going to rally for the U.S. Constitution!!!

I REALLY hope people come and stand up for the rule of law with us (or sit), no matter where you live -- in this neighborhood or in another state. There are ongoing protests and tomorrow is another coordinated day. I'm not going to link to it from here -- look up an org called 50501 or FiftyFiftyOne.

Now I'll tell you why you should protest tomorrow:

1.The President of the United States is ignoring the Supreme Court of the United States. Selectively, which is almost worse because he shouldn't be allowed to win when he wins, and stop playing when he loses.

2. The MAGA-GOP Congress is enabling Trump every step of the way. They don't speak out against his behavior. They don't put limits on his abuses. They are a flaccid bunch of whiners with no vision or plan for the future other than building pretty new concentration camps. It's a shocking defiance of law and order by a party that used to be known as the "law and order" party - or I guess they always just meant fascism.

3. We might be too late to save our democracy -- I'm 50/50 on that -- but we can stop some of the bleeding in the meantime. I'd rather go down fighting than accomodate an authoritarian sociopath, anyway. If you agree, come help keep democracy alive another day. Thanks, First Amendment!

4. Protesters can force their fellow citizens to think...or make their denial harder. Protesting, especially with signs, is visual messaging, too. In a healthy democracy, we could organize quietly and slowly for our cause. But ours is not that. We need to convince more people, and show them we refuse to accept the false normality of Trump's rapid centralization of power.

5. It feels good to take action. If not good, better than sobbing alone at home.
